Sometimes we are given straightforward projects and sometimes things are not so simple.
This lovely old sofa (I always work on the principle that if its too heavy to lift one end, then is it probably worth reupholstering it) has been in the family for years, but the lady of the house – herself a skilled interior designer, wanted it to look not only more cool and up to date, but to also be more comfortable. The seats, for those slightly smaller framed people, were simply too deep. Additionally they wanted us to reuse the existing leather seat cushions.
We talked this through in the works and between us all we decided to reupholster to main carcase using a Kvadrat fabric, upholster the cushions in different Kvadrat colours, but make an upholstered fitted bolster that sits behind the loose cushions.
We thought the results were impressive, very comfortable indeed, and fortunately the client felt the same way.
